Appearance[]
Physical Appearance[]

Personality[]
Sublime is a very kind person who is able to get along with anyone. In "Sublimation", her kindness towards animals is showcased as she tends to a couple of birds nesting over her locker and plays a harp for the animals living in the green area of the school. Not just that, but she is also very patient and understanding, seen in how she was able to make no mind of Marinette's antics after Adrien ensured her she was just trying to find a way to befriend her; or not getting upset with her mother for pushing her too far, knowing she only has her best interests in mind; even when Ladybug accidentally caused her prosthetics to break, she didn’t get upset with the superhero.
Because of her mother, who always motivated her to face her problems and overcome any obstacle, Sublime has become very sufficient, accomplished and capable of finding creative solutions to any obstacle that comes her way.
However, due to the immense pressure her mother places on her, Sublime tends to feel anxious whenever she has to face a big challenge. When this happens, she starts to doubt herself and has small anxiety attacks. To counter this, she tells herself in the mirror motivational mantras to chase away the fear. Her father is also the one to encourage her to do her best whenever she feels anxious, with his support being the one thing that allows her to regain her calmness and focus.
Abilities[]
As a Civilian[]
Sublime is an accomplished para-athlete, as she has won the gold medal on the 100 and 400 meters and is a candidate to win the upcoming World Championship. Because she is an accomplished runner, she has great control over her breathing, allowing her to run not only fast, but also for a long time and during the cold and the rain without getting too tired.
Sublime also excels in music, being capable of playing both the harp and the transverse flute.
She is also capable of speaking five languages.
Relationships[]
Family[]
Séverin Varlette[]
Séverin is Sublime's father and the one she lives with. In contrast with her mother, Séverin is a very loving and doting father to Sublime, while also being very supportive of her dreams, as he was the one to develop the running prosthetics she uses. But he is also the first to try to help Sublime whenever she faces a problem or an obstacle, something that causes a lot of friction with his ex-wife. Because of this, he is quick to perceive when Sublime is being overwhelmed by anxiety and is able to help her regain her calm and focus.
Caroline[]
Caroline is Sublime's mother. In contrast with her father, Caroline does her best to make Sublime the best version she can be. Because of this, instead of offering to help her whenever she faces a problem or obstacle, she motivates her to overcome them herself. Despite this, it allowed Sublime to become the independent and resourceful girl she is; it also made her develop a great deal of anxiety whenever she has to prove herself on big challenges, due to her mother's great expectations for her. Despite this, Sublime is very understanding of her mother, knowing she only has her best interests in mind.
Friends/Allies[]
Adrien Agreste/Cat Noir[]
Not much is known about how Sublime and Adrien first met, but they were known to like running and doing it together. Despite they would never talk while running so they could control their breathing, the two of them would talk before and after it, with Adrien talking about his girlfriend Marinette to Sublime. After Sublime noticed Marinette following her, she brought that up to Adrien, who put her mind at ease by telling her that was Marinette trying to find a way to become friends with her. Sublime took this to heart, despite the fact Marinette later on pretended to be akumatized before her, and later on, she cleared all possible misunderstandings with Marinette and the two became friends.
Sublime first met Cat Noir after her mother's de-akumatization, with her being thankful to him.
Marinette Dupain-Cheng/Ladybug[]
Sublime's first interaction with Marinette was odd, as she noticed her following and watching her. That behavior confused her at first, but Adrien reassured her Marinette was just nervous about being friends with her. Their next encounter was when Marinette pretended to be akumatized when she panicked over the thought Sublime would come to confront her over their possible mutual attraction towards Adrien. Despite finding Marinette's behavior odder than before, Sublime paid her no mind, telling her they would talk later. After her mother's de-akumatization and refusing Bob Roth's sponsorship, Sublime met with Marinette again at the locker room, where the latter apologized for her behavior and expressed her nervousness in becoming her friend. The two girls are able to clear all the misunderstandings between them and befriend one another.
Her first encounter with Marinette's superhero self-happened when the latter tried to make her fake akumatization believable by appearing there looking for an akumatized villain. However, this caused Sublime to lose control over her prosthetics and fall, breaking them in the process. Despite the fact Ladybug caused months of work on developing those prosthetics for nothing, Sublime didn't blame the superhero, as she saw that as nothing but an accident caused by a misunderstanding and knew the prosthetics could be rebuilt. She later was thankful to Ladybug for de-akumatizing her mother and also fixing her prosthetics.
Enemies[]
Bob Roth[]
Caroline invites Bob to watch Sublime's tracking trial for her sponsorship. But when Ladybug unintentionally ruins Sublime trial's and her prosthetic legs, Bob refuses to become Sublime's sponsor, causing Caroline to be akumatized by Chrysalis. After Ladybug de-evilized Caroline and fixed everything, Sublime is given another chance to retake the trial. But despite that Sublime makes a great performance on her trial, Bob Roth makes an unacceptable condition about having Sublime's prosthetic legs to be covered with shoes. Sublime nonetheless suggests her parents about finding other sponsors and they agree with her as they wanted a relationship with a sponsor who can give respect to those who have disabilities. Bob then angrily storms off.
Etymology[]
- The name Sublime comes from the Latin word sublimis, meaning "high" or "elevated." It describes something so great or beautiful. In philosophy and art, it represents a powerful or overwhelming feeling of admiration. As her name suggests, Sublime symbolizes excellence and beauty.[2]
Trivia[]
- On February 9, 2024, Thomas Astruc mentioned in a reply on Twitter that after Tomoe Tsurugi and Lila's third mother, two more disabled characters would debut in Season 6, and that they would be designed in cooperation with relevant people; Sublime is one of them.[3]
- Sublime is the fourth character who has a physical disability, after Tomoe Tsurugi, Lila's third mother, and Odile.
- Marinette states that Sublime is able to speak five languages. Considering Sublime is Belgian and also taking the British and Japanese flags in Marinette's vision board, the five languages Sublime speaks are most likely: French, German, Dutch (these three being Belgium's official languages), English and Japanese.
- The way Marinette befriended Sublime mirrors almost exactly the way she befriended Kagami. Both Kagami and Sublime are very accomplished girls with very demanding mothers, whose first encounters with Marinette were very awkward. Not just that, but Marinette also developed an inferiority complex regarding their friendship, seeing both girls as being too perfect to be her friends.
- The difference between the beginning of her friendship with Kagami and her friendship with Sublime is that Marinette used to be jealous of Kagami's friendship with Adrien, while Marinette never got jealous of Sublime, but instead just wanted to make the best possible impression with her due to her being friends with Adrien.
