Shelved
This page includes information on a show and/or episode that may or may not be shelved from production. A shelved project is when plans for the production of it have been delayed but it's not confirmed to be cancelled. Concepts, ideas, and plans change over time in development, so not every source on this page may be accurate anymore. This page will be updated as soon as we get stronger new sources.

LadyDragon was a planned television series that would be under the ZAG Heroez label. It was going to serve as a spin-off and sequel to "Miraculous Shanghai" and featured Fei Wu as the titular superheroine LadyDragon.

As of April 2024, the television series was shelved from production because of a lack of interest from executives wanting to greenlight it.[2]

Characters[]

Fei Wu/LadyDragon[]

Fei Wu (吴飞/吳飛) (Wu Fei in Chinese order) was going to be the main protagonist of her spin-off series. She is a Chinese teenage martial artist who recently become LadyDragon, the titular animal shape-shifting superhero. After the events of "Miraculous Shanghai", she now lives with Marinette Dupain-Cheng's maternal great-uncle Wang Cheng at the Thousand Delights restaurant.

Renlings[]

The Renlings are divine sprite-like beings who embody human values. They grant Fei the ability to transform into animals when she wields the Prodigious. The group consists of Long Long (dragon), Xiong Xiong (bear), Tang Tang (mantis), She She (snake), Ying Ying (eagle), Hou Hou (monkey), Ma Ma (horse), and Hu Hu (tiger).

Development[]

The LadyDragon television spin-off was in development as a sequel to "Miraculous Shanghai", which premiered in France on April 4, 2021, with huge success.[3]

On August 11, 2021, Jeremy Zag hinted at the idea of the TV series in an Instagram post.[4]

The planned series was first announced via Licensing Russia in April 2021, initially expected to premiere in 2022.[1]

On the following year, it was revealed via Licensing Russia that the tentative release year was pushed back to 2024.[5]

On October 2022, the official ZAG website revealed a concept art that featured the official logo for the spin-off series.[6]

However, it was eventually confirmed by series creator Thomas Astruc on April 29, 2024, that the project is unable to get greenlighted by broadcasters and executives. Thus, it is shelved from production and delayed indefinitely until further notice.[2]

Trivia[]

  • Thomas Astruc confirmed on Twitter that he created a pitch bible for the unproduced spin-off before the project was rejected.[2]
  • Even though the spin-off was shelved, Astruc hopes that it would to be greenlight some day. He suggests that popular demand can convince executives to change their minds about the project.[7]
  • Based on a Licensing Russia 2021 presentation slide, LadyDragon was going to air on Disney Channel.[1]
  • This isn't the first Miraculous Ladybug project that get shelved from production because of a lack of interest from executives. Other known projects confirmed to be shelved include "Miraculous Rio", a television spin-off for the aforementioned special, the Miraculous Ladybug OVA, and an unknown "Miraculous Paris" spin-off project.[2]
  • LadyDragon is the first known project that was going to serve as a spin-off to a series ZAG owns the rights to.
  • If it managed to get into production as originally planned, then LadyDragon would have been the first television spin-off released under the ZAG Heroez label.
