Abominable is a planned CGI animated feature film by ZAG Animation Studios under the ZAG Adventure brand.[1]
As of 2023, the status of the film is unknown since production hasn't started yet.
Synopsis[]
At the behest of an eccentric billionaire, a struggling cryptozoologist named John Marx joins a team of esteemed specialists –- their skills ranging from biology to mountaineering – to traverse the Himalayas in search of the elusive "Abominable Snowman." But everyone gets more than they bargained for when John's 7-year-old daughter, Shannon, secretly tags along. Exiled from the team, this unlikely father-daughter duo must now set out on their own –- with the help of an adventurous local guide -– to track down the Yeti themselves.[2]
Characters[]
- John Marx: a struggling cryptozoologist and the father of Shannon.
- Shannon Marx: the 7-year-old daughter of John Marx, who tags along with her father's team in search of the Abominable Snowman.
- Abominable Snowman/Yeti: an ape-like creature taller than an average human, that is said to inhabit the Himalayan and Siberian regions of East Asia. As seen in concept arts, the Yeti seems to befriend Shannon Marx.
Trivia[]
- Abominable was first announced on October 29, 2014, after ZAG Animation Studios was launched.[3][4]
- As of 2023, it's unknown if Abominable is still being developed into a feature film since there is a lack of information about its production status. Because of this, it's possible that the project has been shelved.
- On June 17, 2022, it was announced that ZAG Animation Studios and Cross Creek Pictures have signed a ten-picture deal.[5] There's a possibility that Abominable would be part of the deal, but there's no confirmation yet.
- According to the release date timeline from the ZAG website in 2016, the film was planned to be released in 2020. However, the film was removed from the timeline after the website was updated in 2017.[6]
- If Abominable isn't postponed from its original release year, then it would have been the fourth feature film that ZAG Entertainment ever released. It would have also been the second animated film to be released under the ZAG Adventure brand.
- Coincidentally, there's a DreamWorks' animated film of the same name that was released in September 2019. Because of it, it's unknown if ZAG has to rename their film to avoid any confusion with the DreamWorks film once production begin.
